Micah is off the ventilator and breathing on his own! They extubated him this afternoon, and he had a little bit of trouble at first but was a lot better once he could lay on his mommy's lap! My sister held him for a while, and he was on Reed's lap when my mom called with the update (sounds like he's going to want someone to hold him all night, but can you blame the little guy?!?) He will probably be transferred out of the ICU to a regular room in the next couple of days. The kidney is still working wonderfully! Micah is already receiving some pretty heavy-duty anti-rejection medications and will continue to do so for the next 3 months or so. After that they will start tapering them off (although he'll be on some form of the medication for the rest of his life).
Katie was discharged this morning and is feeling progressively better. She will hopefully get some good sleep tonight at the hotel. (they have a room at a nearby hotel, since their townhouse is too far away from the hospital to commute.)
Good-night everyone!
