While Susie was busy at her reunion, I went backpacking with her Dad in Rocky Mountain National Park. We went up the Lawn Lake trail and stayed at the Golden Banner campsite. Here is Mark setting up camp.

We endured hurricane force winds on the first night, and half of Mark's tent stakes were pulled out. It felt like sleeping in a kite and we only ended up getting 2-3 hours of quality sleep. Plus he wanted to talk all night long between our tents.

Here is Mark above Lawn Lake, climbing towards Crystal Lake. We started to run into snow around 11,000' and made good use of the snow shows.

Here I am in the same position but looking towards the southwest. We were making our own trail at this time. It must have been good because some guy from Minnesota kept following us.

Crystal Lake is off to the left in this picture, but all I could think about was getting to the top of that mountain!

We hit this nice little ice field and Mark was smart enough to hold up while I continued climbing to The Saddle on all fours. It's hard to see from the picture, but it's almost a vertical climb and I was able make it with only snowshoes. Everest has nothing even remotely difficult compared to this beauty. Susanne would NOT have approved. I ended up sliding down this part on my butt.

The view from the top was worth it.

The view of Hagues Peak from The Saddle at 12,398'. I'll have to come back later in the summer to climb that one.

good job mikey!!!!
it is so pretty, we'll save that one for when cam is allowed to carry a backpack.
BUT, just another reason to move here... built in friends to hike/camp with... :)
or the boys and girls can trade off camping and babysitting!
i am glad you had fun!
Mike-looks like you had a great time with Papa Deters!! Fun!! Looked beautiful up there! Glad you were able to go up there!!!
Mike-liked the pictures! Good memories! Don't worry, I won't let Susanne know about your death-defying climb up the avalanche-prone glacier to the summit, and my pleas for you not to do it for the sake of Susanne, Sophie, and Fredde. Oops, forgot Sus will probably read this.....
Looks like a lot of fun! Too scary for us though :)
Sophie is so precious- she looks like such a little girl. The pictures are great! We can't believe you will have another little one here soon, Can't Wait!!
Love & Miss you,
Dan, Sherrell & Makenna
